A strapless fit & flare with a low back for an elegant art deco wedding
I'd tried on dresses at four other places and nothing felt right. Ten minutes into my appointment at London Bride, I was in tears for all the right reasons.

Best Moment

Turning the corner into the Great Hall and seeing James's face before he saw mine.

How They Met

We met through mutual friends at a rooftop bar in Bermondsey. James spilled his drink on my shoes within the first five minutes, spent the rest of the night apologising, and somehow still managed to get my number. That was six years ago.

The Proposal

James proposed on a rainy Tuesday evening in our flat in Peckham. There was no grand gesture, no hidden photographer. He just looked at me while I was making pasta and said he didn't want to do life with anyone else. It was completely us.

Their Wedding Vision

We wanted something that felt elegant but not stuffy. We're both drawn to art deco, clean lines, and a bit of drama without being over the top. Eltham Palace was the dream because it gave us that 1930s glamour alongside the beautiful gardens. The whole vibe was relaxed luxury with a lot of personal touches.

Finding the Dress at London Bride

A friend recommended London Bride after she'd had a terrible experience somewhere else and then found her dress on Walworth Road. I wasn't sure what to expect from a smaller boutique, but honestly the minute I walked in I felt looked after. There was no rushing, no pressure, and the team actually listened to what I wanted rather than putting me in things that weren't me. I think I tried on about eight dresses and they were patient with every single one. The whole appointment felt like it was just for me.

The Moment She Knew

It sounds like a cliche but I genuinely knew the second I looked in the mirror. Everything before that felt like I was wearing someone else's dress. This one just felt like me, but a slightly more glamorous version. My mum started crying before I did, which set everyone off. The consultant just quietly passed the tissues and let us have the moment.

The Wedding Day

The morning was chaos in the best way. Eight of us crammed into the bridal suite at Eltham Palace with champagne and croissants while the photographer captured everything. The ceremony was in the Great Hall, which was honestly breathtaking with the afternoon light coming through. We wrote our own vows and James completely fell apart halfway through his, which made everyone laugh and cry at the same time. The reception was in the gardens with festoon lights strung between the trees. We had a live jazz trio during dinner and then a DJ took over for the evening. My dad's speech was the highlight, closely followed by James's best man revealing a photo from James's school days that should never have seen the light of day.

Advice for Future Brides

Don't go to too many shops. I went to four before London Bride and all it did was confuse me. Trust your gut early, take someone whose opinion you genuinely value rather than a big group, and don't let Pinterest set expectations that don't match your actual body or budget. The dress you end up with will probably surprise you, and that's a good thing.
